MEDIA SERVER is a home networking
solution for MEDIA JUKEBOX users that allows remote access
to media files from multiple PC locations. Media files accessed
from the host computer are streamed to another location, giving
users instant file access while saving hard disk space on
remote computers.
MEDIA SERVER requires that the
host PC and those remote PC's you want to play files on all
have MEDIA JUKEBOX 6.0 installed.
Starting MEDIA SERVER on the host
computer
On a host computer, open MEDIA JUKEBOX and select Servers>Start
Server from the toolbar. This MEDIA SERVER window will open:

Note the IP address of the host computer
under "Server Information." You'll need this when connecting
from a remote computer. Click on "Start." The Server Activity
Log window should read "Authorizing serverŠ server authorized."
Starting MEDIA SERVER on a remote
computer
On a remote computer, open MEDIA JUKEBOX and select Servers>Manager
from the toolbar. If you are using MEDIA SERVER for the first
time, you will need to select "Add" and then enter the server
name or the IP address of the host computer. In the future,
that IP address can be chosen from the "Select Media Server"
window. Click "Enter."
The server name can be a host name
or an IP address (followed by a colon and the port number,
if you wish to specify a port). Some examples of what valid
host names might look like are:
- music.jriver.com
- music.jriver.com:8931
- 198.121.98.76
- 198.121.98.76:8931
- MyComputerName
When the connection is made, you will
see this message: "You are successfully connected to 'hostname.'"
You now have access to all the files residing on the host
computer. This includes the Media Library, playlists, Smartlists
and categories.
Note: Files accessed from the host
computer are streaming files and cannot be downloaded.
To close your connection to the server, select "Disconnect"
from the "Servers" menu.
MEDIA SERVER configuration options
From the MEDIA JUKEBOX toolbar, select Servers>Start Sever>Options.
Settings
This allows you to specify the maximum number of users, or
the maximum number of simultaneous streams that the server
can output. This is currently limited to three.
"Server" port is the port number to use for the
server streams. The default is set to 8931, but it can be
changed if necessary.
Security
If the host computer user has set these fields, remote users
will have to enter them to get access to the server.
Startup
Here you can "Start MEDIA SERVER on Windows Startup," which
opens MEDIA SERVER once the PC is turned on, and "Enable auto-start,"
which automatically grants server authorization.
